What are the upsides and downsides to the idea of Susan Collins mounting a primary challenge against President Trump?

I like Susan Collins a lot, but I'm a Democrat. And that's a symptom of the struggles she'd face in a primary.  I don't know that she'd really fare well anywhere against Trump, not even on her home turf. She'd be much better going independent (in any race going forward).

Only Upside: it's less embarrassing than losing her reelection primary for Senate, which she is more likely than not to lose.

Downside: losing to the Donald.

Do you really think a highly popular Collins will lose the primaries?
