Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

The Muppet Christmas Carol. You can tell Michael Caine is a great actor because he plays a dead-serious, totally convincing Scrooge opposite Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit.

Last movie in theaters: Allied. It was "ok". Entertaining enough. Can't hold a candle to Hacksaw Ridge

Just saw Allied today. I liked it for the most part but certain aspects of it inspired me to try to do better in my own World War II spy romance that I'm writing.

Until very recently I didn't know what Hacksaw Ridge actually was. I assumed based on the title that it was some sort of Wes Craven- or Rob Zombie-style horror flick, and I like horror but not that kind of horror so I didn't have any interest in seeing it. Then all my Catholic friends started talking it up as this incredible drama and I looked it up and found out what it's really about. Shame I missed it.

All About Eve as a Fathom Events thing. I liked the movie but it could easily have ended after the Anne Baxter character blackmails the Celeste Holm character into telling her husband to give her the part. Most of what happens after that point isn't nearly as compelling (or funny) as what happened before. After the movie I read some reviews and saw that a lot of commentators have seen a note of homophobia in it, which left a sour aftertaste.
