Yes...?

Is this some urban/rural divide thing? Or is it just a question of whether you've driven a car?

While we're on the subject, I was at a bar in Portland last year that had an "FAQ" section on their menu, one of which was "do you validate parking?" to which their answer was something like "your [clap] parking [clap] is [clap] valid!" Felt very Portland-y.

Portland (the bad one, in Oregon) is sh**t.

I've never met anyone from Portland that wasn't a complete loser. Their food scene ain't sh**t compared to LA or SF, for the record.

Yes.  There are parts of Kansas City where parking is tight enough to charge for it.  (An indie movie theater in Midtown is the first place that comes to mind.)

WTF I had to search on Google what it means.
I am used to either public parking or the restaurant/club/whatever has its own parking but you just park and there is no ticket/receipt whatsoever.
I talked to my mother and apparently a shopping mall in my city had this validating thing some time ago but not anymore.

Yes, both literally and euphemistically.
