I worked for a political consulting/ad making firm called Squier-Eskew in the 1988 cycle as a college student/intern and in the 1990 cycle as a paid toadie. They were probably the dominant Democratic firm at the time would do 12-14 statewide campaigns in a cycle, plus other projects. It was fun and exciting, but at the same time it was obvious that the stress level would be difficult to cope with if I continued to pursue such a path, so I chose more stable peaceful pursuits, which is fortunate, because 1992 probably would have killed me.
Actual true story, one of the clients in 88 was Sen Frank Lautenberg (NJ), several versions of his campaign ads were sent to a 3rd party for final editing and then were sent to the Lautenberg campaign for final approval. The 3rd party made a bit of an error, got tapes mixed up, and sent a porno tape to the campaign. Nobody previewed this specific tape, so everybody in the room (thankfully not me) including Sen Lautenberg got to watch play get punched and the very wrong video come up, plus a couple of FF efforts to see if the ads were on tape somewhere. Sen. Lautenberg took the whole thing graciously (didn't fire the firm) and quipped "Somewhere out there is a very disappointed couple, wondering why I'm on their TV".
