The Democrats wanted to fire Comey because they claimed he lost Clinton the election. Trump has fired Comey. Democrats are unhappy and talk about Nixon. Yes, the timing was unfortunate, but the day before Clapper denied any links between Trump and Russia have being found yet. If Trump had fired Comey on the first day, as some suggest,  it still would have Russia implications, possibly more.

The Russia investigation won't end any time soon. We may have doubts and have our own opinions of course, but the media coverage is terrible. CNN has become unwatchable, today I saw Watergate and Nixon and that's the only narrative they present. Talk about presenting facts from both sides.

What if there is only one valid side?
There's no evidence to be 100% sure the reason was the FBI investigation into Russia. Therefore I'd like to also see a different side, that it is in fact because of Clinton scandal. However CNN has immediately made up their minds (not only them, NBC is equally terrible if not worse). This is not about facts, this is about their political preferences.

After hearing and reading some news, I don't believe Trump fired Comey because of Russia investigation. Otherwise he should have appointed new one very quickly to cover-up and acting director isn't sounding as someone willing to cover-up. And Watergate comparisons are lunacy. It probably has to do with Comey unwilling to charge Clinton (and if so, that would be actually a very good move!). PR is not the biggest strength of Trump so it is what it is and the liberal (often fake news) media jump out on the bandwagon immediately, with their ultimate goal of see an impeached Trump. Such is their hate for him.

He can't unilaterally appoint someone, the Senate needs to vote on his pick.
But he still hasn't picked one.
