Cruz has called for law enforcement patrols to secure muslim neighborhoods (see the NBC News article).

He's gotten heat from some people, but is receiving support from Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy. Dr. Jasser's statements:

This guy is hardly representative of mainstream Muslim views.

I guess he's a useful fig leaf to ward off accusations of Islamophobia, though. At the trump rally I protested, the crowd handpicked to sit behind trump included people holding signs reading "MUSLIMS FOR trump", "SIKHS FOR trump", and so on and so forth for like 10 different religions (along with the more generic "silent majority" signs or just his name). Only "silent majority" signs were passed out to the crowd, though.

That's unfortunate.

This guy is hardly representative of mainstream Muslim views.

Perhaps, but he at least serves to indicate that not all Muslims are falling in line behind the narrative currently being pushed...

Cruz wrote an op-ed in the Daily News that gives more detail on the proposal.

So... what's your point, then? 100.0% is unattainable, there are always bound to be dissenters. Do you think people don't understand that?

Thank God the Republican establishment is lining up behind this sensible, mainstream conservative. Roll Eyes

They do seem to be hotbeads of socialist sentiment, judging from the Dem primary in Michigan...

Um. I mean, this is a guy whose career is built on validating anti-Muslim sentiments. He seems like a pretty dubious character to me.

To be more specific, I don't think he is very representative of non-Islamist Muslims.

It was a ridiculous empty statement. It was just a way to sound tough. This was just like his 'make the sand glow' comment. Not a serious policy.

Yes, it's good to see that all the moderates in the reasonable and respectable Grand Old Party are firm in their rejection of extremism and bigotry... and are thus pledging their support to Ted Cruz.

I'm not a Cruz supporter, I made that pretty clear, it's obvious you haven't been paying attention.
