Wow sh!t is going to blow up even more. I did pick the right time to head out, hope everything has blown over when I get back....

But based on that video there's no justification for not filing murder charges.

What makes that video pretty surreal and all the more horrifying to me is that I'm very familiar with the area it took place in and sometimes pass it coming home from work. I've shopped at that shop it's in front of. And now seeing such a horrifying site there...yech.

I guess I sure picked the right time to be out of Minneapolis.

I'm not usually happy to not be in Minneapolis but this is such a time. This is bad. I'm reading social media reports. Full scale riot in SE Minneapolis, tear gas deployed, people trapped in the Target and AutoZone...

One report I'm hearing is police shot out the lights in the Target parking lot where protestors are gathered now...

Apparently one of my favorite liquor stores was smashed and looted and lots of damage to my main Target too. Also the poor Target employees are trapped inside.

Reminds me of Tea Party protests compared with early BLM demonstrations.

Is the implcation that cops should have set off tear gas in inside the literal state Capitol building during a legislative session over some maskless protesters? If its that the cops should not have gassed the Minnesotans then I agree.

The latter. Every report I'm hearing is that it was a totally peaceful protest until the cops escalated it. They were also pretty indiscriminate, a Star Tribune writer reported a rubber bullets injury.

I'm now worried that this will also cause a Covid surge which might delay my return.

So I actually read some cop forums and communities and even they're universally saying the cops should be convicted of murder. Also read that it's pretty standard training that one is to never place their knee on someone's neck. Pressing shoulder blades with one's knee can happen in pretty extreme cases where the suspect is still unruly and resisting but never the neck and even then only for a very brief period to cuff them. And this guy was already cuffed and  there's no evidence he was even being unruly.

Why do US cops always look like f-cking losers.

Yeah the impression I get is that they're either much more under-paid or under-qualified than here.

The odd thing is that neither of those applies in Minneapolis. Minneapolis even has a requirement of at least a Bachelor's degree to be hired as police.

Funny to see MSNBC and other news agencies give out headlines like "MSP protesters met with tear gas", while in reality the protesters are out acting like animals, looting and attacking cops. In situations like these, the CCP model actually works pretty well.

None of that started until the police started firing the tear gas and rubber bullets at the crowds indiscriminately. They're hitting bystanders and journalists too.

This is really bad. The AutoZone burning has no doubt released a lot of toxins into the area and air and public transit has been suspended in that area too, the Blue Line light rail as well. Lots of poor people in that area relied on the closed businesses for essential supplies, not to mention medical ones, the nearby Walgreens was looted and is now closed too. And of course a huge blow to social distancing and a likely COVID-19 surge, plus more strain on the already strained hospitals in the area. I'm scared as hell.

And of course f[inks] the police who first started this in killing George Floyd and then the ones who escalated this out of control and turned the peaceful protest into a riot. A lot more than those 4 need to be fired.

What happened to George is a complete travesty.  Imagine if that was a black police officer and a white suspect.

Are the looters being arrested? Does anyone know?

A few have been. The last report I heard was 5 which is obviously pretty low but it's also a several hours old report.

And that what he meant was look at all evidence before filing charges including evidence that wouldn't support a charge. Not to imply there's exonerating evidence.

But that's ONE HELL OF AN AWFUL MISSPEAK.

The such-and-such-title of the department just gave a presser at CNN.  

In response to a question about whether charges will be filed against the offending officer(s), he began by giving the cookie-cutter "I can't make a judgment here on the spot" answer.  Fine.  

But he followed it up with something to the effect of "what happened in the video is horrendous, but there also may be evidence that renders it unnecessary for to charges to be filed."  

Even if that is the case, it was the wrong thing to say.  People are pretty universally angry right now.  

Trumpian levels of stubborn denial here.

Let it be known to all business owners and innocent civilians that cops would rather watch burning and looting than admit to any wrongdoing.

Like, seriously? What **evidence** could possibly justify the officer's actions (or his fellow officers' inaction)?

Honestly, this guy might have to go, too. PDs and DAs need a good, thorough purge.

This is reminiscent of Daryl Gates.

He did face a reformist opponent in 2018 who he beat narrowly. Only candidate I voted for who lost.

But at his age I'm betting he'll just retire in 2022 anyway.

There is a video of a man breaking the windows at the AutoZone. He is very clearly not with the protestors.

The video was removed from YouTube but people have shared copies on Twitter.

This has launched theories that the police themselves instigated the actual rioting and looting. I'm not claiming this is true, simply sharing the discussion I've seen. The video above in regards to AutoZone definitely shows someone not from the protests starting property damage.

Heating rumors that live ammunition is/was being used in the Louisville protest and there may be injuries there. Things seem fairly quiet in Minneapolis, though tons of fires still burning.

I'm hearing that rioters have entered an apartment building in Uptown.
