Congressman John Anderson of Illinois is able to outpace Bush and Reagan after winning New Hampshire and goes to win the nomination in triumph. Anderson would persuade Howard Baker to be his runningmate.

Incumbent President Jimmy Carter beats off Ted Kennedy and Brown and is renominated with Vice President Walter Mondale.

Some conservatives are angered at Anderson's nomination and bolt, running Congressman Phil Crane of Illinois on a Independent-Conservative ticket.

How does the election play out, do the Republicans still win in 1980, discuss please.

Anderson improves on Reagan's margins in the Northeast, but facing attacks from the right, fails to secure the South as a Republican stronghold.
