He raised taxes despite promising not to, the economy was in poor shape, national security became much less of an issue after the end of the Cold War, and also Bush Sr. had no charisma.

If anything Quayle helped Bush he was a the fair haired child of the christian right and he mobilized the base.

No. Quayle hurt Bush Sr. because he was stupid and inexperienced. The religious right already supported Bush Sr.

Well lets see Reagan did raise taxes 13 times and in 1983 tax hike was the largest tax increase in U.S. history at the time.

You mean his 1982 tax hike. Also, Reagan flip-flopped on abortion just like Bush Sr. did.

Someone said that reagan's poll numbers had dropped a lot by the time he left office, but reagan had a 65% approval when he left office.

I think that bush would have beaten dukakis or other candidates n 1992.

Well obviously he'd beat other candidates. I don't think Michael Dukakis could campaign his way out of a paper bag. I believe Bush left office with a 56% approval rating.

His approvals were much lower than that on Election Day, though. I think Dukakis could have beaten Bush Sr. in 1992 if he ran a good campaign and focused a lot on the poor economy.
