The Generals' race/year/election....

As my 1948 Eisenhower (D)/Patton(R) thread has no success (with reason for: it would have been a landslide),
let's turn to this one.

Truman fell ill and does not seek a second term.
In a difficult international context, a man with military and/or experience is sought after by each party.

Marshall fills the political logic for the Dems, who nominate him quite easily.

The GOP succeeds in convincing Ike to be its candidate.

Patton, who survived his car accident in Germany in late 1945 and who is angry in a not very precise job of "general inspector of the armies", decides to enter the contest as a "patriotic and states rights independent".

Ideas of VP ? Maps ? Results ?

(I'll post mine later)

What about this one ?

Eisenhower 257
Marshall 202
Patton 72

Marshall is able to grasp his home state of PA, but not IL.
Eisenhower doesn't succeed to benefit from divided Dem votes in TX, but he secures NY and the West and SW states.
Patton, who is supported by a large part of Dixiecrats, does quite well for an angry candidate leading an erratic campaign.

As for VP, please help me, Atlasians !

Bump.

I'm really disappointed this "Generals' election" doesn't generate more posts....
