A bystander who intervened in the shooting of a police officer in Colorado on Monday by shooting the gunman was himself fatally shot by a responding police officer, the authorities said on Friday.

The police department in Arvada, Colo., just outside Denver, shared a timeline on Friday that outlined what the police chief, Link Strate, described as a tragic sequence of events that resulted in the deaths of a good Samaritan and a police officer.

The police said they responded to a call of a suspicious person at Arvada’s Olde Town, a downtown district with shops, restaurants and bars, at 1:31 p.m. local time on Monday.

Really? Come on. The man was trying to save another man's life. It was a courageous act and he shouldn't be mocked or called stupid for doing it. The blame lies on the cop that responded and just an unfortunate series of events.

I don't think the poster was mocking this poor good-hearted person for trying to do the right thing, but rather those gun nuts who always insist all we need are more good people going around armed and crime will drop, when 98% of the time that's not even remotely true and s*** like this happens. How are the police supposed to know who the "good guys" with a gun are? How are other good guys with guns supposed to know? If there's a shooting in a grocery store, and two bystanders have guns - how are they supposed to know whether each other is an accomplice or a 'good guy'?
