Fun fact that I learned last weekend: Tennessee has never elected back-to-back Republican governors.  Let's change that!

One Republican is already in the race- State Sen. Mark Green (R-Clarksville), who would be an incredible governor.  I will wait and see, but I could definitely see myself voting for him in the primary.

House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh leaning towards getting in as well:

State Sen. Mark Green (R-Clarksville) was thought to be a frontrunner in this race.  I hadn't decided on anybody yet, but I liked him a lot (I once asked him about why we don't have a 20-week abortion ban yet and he said it was because that bill wouldn't completely end abortion, for example).  Anyway, he will do well in his new job, I'm sure.

So, who is the R frontrunner now? Fincher? Black? Blackburn?

Probably Diane Black or Randy Boyd, but a lot can still happen

I don't know anything about Boyd's politics, but I've heard genuinely good things about him as a person so if there has to be a Republican Governor I hope it's him.

Boyd is a close Haslam ally and would likely be similar

Looks like Mark Green's confirmation isn't a sure thing

I don't know enough about the situation to know whether he actually is in danger, though. Or whether this is even relevant to Tennessee gubernatorial politics.

I feel like his nomination will go through, but if it's stopped because he is too conservative for McCain, I don't think that will hurt him too much in the primary.  But, a failed confirmation hearing (plus not actively running for a few months) is still a negative if it were to happen.

The bad news: The American people won't get Mark Green as Secretary of the Army
The good news: We will get him as Governor
