The stateline runs through the center of the city's main street. I can't find much information on how municipal regulations are supposed to hang up with state regulations, etc. I can't imagine you get a totally different sales tax just by crossing the street, right?

I don't see why there wouldn't be different laws on the two sides. There are many cities the cross county lines and are subject to different ordinances in different counties. In IL a city in two counties with different sales tax rates levies those different rates in different parts of town. This particularly happens with cities that are partially in Cook which has a higher sales tax rate than the surrounding counties.

Fargo/Moorhead are split by a river dividing ND and MN right through downtown and each side has the respective sales tax.
