This is even funnier when you remember Justice endorsed Manchin.

Let’s hope Manchin doesn’t run. If he leaves his Senate seat then the GOP majority is basically sealed for the next four years

Yeah, I would have to vote for Justice if he ran, just to keep him in the senate.

Agree. It would be foolish. The governorship of West Virginia also doesn't constitute a lot of power due to the state constitution and the state's size.

If Manchin pulls the trigger & WINS in 2020, he can appoint his own successor to the United States Senate.

Wilson did it in CA.

Daniel here in TX.

Corzine did the same in NJ.

A successor who, sadly, would have to go to the trouble of losing spectacularly in a way that would make Natalie Tennant blush. Manchin needs to stay or the hypothetical Democratic majority goes up in smoke.

Manchin would be better off enjoying his last six (well, I guess five and a half) years in elected office, rather than humiliating himself by losing.

NJ: Corzine appointed then-US Rep. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) to his US Senate seat when Corzine became Governor on January 17th, 2006.

Menendez won 3 consecutive statewide elections in 2006, 2012 & 2018.

TX: When Daniel was elected TX's 38th Governor in 1956, outgoing Governor Allan Shivers (D) appointed William Blakley (D) to Daniel's US Senate seat when Daniel resigned from the United States Senate to take office as Governor on January 15th, 1957.

Blakley didn't run in the special election, which was won by Ralph Yarborough (D), who went onto win reelection in 1958 & 1964 before losing in the nasty Dem Primary in 1970 to Bentsen.

CA: Wilson, who had resigned from the United States Senate upon taking office as CA's 36th Governor on January 7th, 1991, appointed State Senator John F. Seymour (R-Anaheim) to his US Senate seat.

Seymour served until November 3rd, 1992 when he lost the special election to former SF Mayor Diane Feinstein (D), who holds the US Senate seat as of April 3rd, 2019.

Manchin should stay in the Senate until 2024

If WV Dems want to win, Carte Goodwin or even Gaston Caperton can win again.

The WV Dems only have Manchin & that's it. He's their ONLY shot at winning back the WV Governor's Mansion; plus some of them are pissed off at Justice for bolting to the GOP in mid-to-late 2017.
