I'm fortunate enough to live in the inner city, 10 minutes from the city and 5 from the beach. I love it, although it is now, unfortunately, quite gentrified.
I will never, as long as I live in a major city, live more then 15 minutes from the CBD of that city. If anyone is an idiot, it's the person who lives one and a half hours out in the heart of suburbia; but they may find something that is appealing about that.
As for me, I'm perfectly happy to live in my little borough-urban, cosmopolitan, diverse and exciting...even if there are too many yuppies.
