On July 1, 1867, through the British North America Act, the Dominion of Canada was created, which included Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.  Basically, it's the day on which Canada became a sovereign nation.

And I did enjoy it, although I didn't do much on it.  There aren't many festivities here that celebrate it. Smiley

All the partying is done not too far from here Smiley  Believe it or not, I have lived in the capital my whole life and never attended the concerts on the hill (Parliament Hill). It usually gets ~30,000 people methinks. And then there is fireworks too.

Just think of it as July 4, but more of a disaster than a good thing.

I thought Conservatives were supposed to be patriotic?

Of course I am.  I just so happens to think that if Her Majesty kept Canada under direct control, all of it, it would have been much better for Canada.  We're less mature than the United States, and we have a French problem.  Only one country in the world knew how to deal with the French at that time... England.
