A couple of conservative Midwestern states.  We might be slightly more backward, but our open spaces and cleaner environment more than compensate for that.

Oddly enough I've been to music fests in both of these dates! The only other states are the ones I lived in: Minnesota and North Dakota.

Boring as Indiana is, any Great Lakes state > any Great Plains state.

South Dakota has more beautiful nature (the Black Hills, Harney Peak, Badlands), but Indiana has larger cities like Indianapolis and Evansville. I'll say South Dakota is the better state to visit, but Indiana probably the better state to live in

Both solid, well-run states with good people and a good Midwestern culture of decency.  However, I am much more familiar with Indiana (especially Indianapolis), so it gets my vote!

"Minnesota/Midwestern nice" just means passive-aggressive.

So I’ve heard, from outsiders that we still definitely are nice to and totally like! Tongue

Indiana because I'm born and raised in Indiana, but my grandmas grew up in SD and I want to see the state someday.

Indiana is boring and lame, much like the Vice President from that state. But at least it's got a decent city in Indianapolis, and parts of it are close to better cities in other states (Chicago, Louisville). South Dakota is probably the superior Dakota (sorry BRTD) but it's still too far removed from civilization and most interesting things for my tastes. I will say it's probably better than the other Great Plains states though, in part because it's not really "Plains." There are actual mountains there.

They were both excellent battleships of WW2, but since the South Dakota was the lead ship of her class, I voted South Dakota.

As a non-Midwesterner who has been living here for more than half a decade, there is some truth to this.
