Baldwin is not running. He likes de Blasio. He also bashed Quinn for being Bloomberg's hand-picked successor and "has blood on her hands" for pushing the legislation through to allow his third term run.

Quinnipiac poll has 51% of NYC voters opposed to a Hillary Mayoral run. 46% support the idea. Statewide, 58% oppose.

I read on PoliticalWire yesterday that Rendell was being suggested by some of Bloomberg's aides. I figured it was a half joking suggestion (and it probably still is) but the Philadelphia Daily News picked it up this morning. It's the cover story.

For the record, Rendell is originally from NYC.

Seems like a crop of really horrible candidates on the Dem side (with the GOP leaving a lot to be desired, too). Quinn is a Bloomberg twin which is an automatic disqualifier and Weiner is himself. I guess I'd dislike de Blasio the least. Liu's "downright hostile" feelings towards Bloomberg are good but it seems like he has some issues of his own.

And with this group, I guess it still isn't insane to think that the eventual Republican nominee could win. Remarkable.

Reading about how Weiner built his career on disgusting race baiting and then lied about only reinforces my hate for him. Anyone who thinks this guy is a 'progressive' is either stupid or just doesn't care.

I don't like Weiner at all and totally believe that he's a dirty campaigner (just look at his antics in the House) but 75% of that article was sour grapes. "Oh, he'd go into the supermarket and campaign!" "But I might have been in Congress!" Ok, lady. Get over it.

Yeah... I don't think you can come back from a sex scandal while you're still clearly doing the sex scandal.

This is what pisses me off more than anything. And I know people that don't think there is anything wrong with that. The guy admits wrong doing, claims he's seeking help....then went back to doing this right after resigning.

Why is he still in this? Is he just begging to be publicly tortured?

Well he might actually get off on being tortured, so Shocked

alright let's chill.  the guy likes to sext.  doesn't mean he's anything but vanilla sexually.

Uh, I think the chronic lying about it, even after claiming he knows it's wrong, is in his past and has sought help, is what is concerning people about his mental state.

What's the knock on Thompson? For someone who came so close last time, he gets little attention in comparison.

Well, it was sort of shocking that he came so close and his support was mostly based around Anti Bloomberg feelings. I remember a week or so before the election, I think the New York Times ran a story on how disastrous Thompson's campaign was and how everyone was bracing for a landslide loss.

Latest Siena Poll shows Weiner with an 80% unfavorable rating in the city. That is a record in Siena polling.

So de Blasio should be forced into a runoff (good). Stringer better edge out Spitzer though.

Why is that good? It's just extra taxpayer money for an election that he will win anyway and by a larger margin.

Oh, I'm not an NYC taxpayer but I am a political nerd so I'd like to see this go on awhile longer with zero fiscal consequence to me. Smiley

A bit, yeah? Police and fire were out for Thompson. Many of the more law and order types liked his middle of road approach on the stop and frisk.

Also, the teacher's union went for Thompson.  A lot of those middle class types live in places like Staten Island, Breezy Point and eastern Queens.

My aunt called me as she was on the way to the polls. She told me her union (the teachers) told her to vote for Thompson. She's in Queens so that kind of speaks to your point. She's a diehard Republican though and was voting for Lhota.

Stringer seems to be winning too, which is good news for Quinnipiac and not so good news for PPP.

He won by four points and has been declared the winner.

I'm scrolling over the precinct map on the NY Times and notice a precinct on the edge of Chinatown that only had one vote recorded. It was for Liu.

I consider myself at least partially responsible for DeBlasio's victory: I drunk dialed an ex, who lives in NYC, and told her to vote for DeBlasio. You're welcome, New York.

You drunk dialed an ex. And you think that person voted the way you suggested?

WCBS-TV is reporting that there are 54,000 paper ballots from Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island to be opened, an unknown number from Queens, and 14,000 absentees in so far.  I don't know why the absentee total is down from others' 19,000 estimate.

Yes, this is why it is all up in the air. Plus the paper ballot voters, and in particular, the absentee voters, may have a different voting pattern from the balance of the ballots. It is amazing how low the turnout is. That tends to be the way with New York state primaries. Few care about them much for some reason.

That's what happens with off-year elections and their primaries. They really should link things like this and NJ/VA-Gov to the presidential cycle. Having regular positions scheduled to an election time when 60% to 75% of the electorate won't show up is a back-handed way to keep things in 'order' or focus.

Or people can get informed and learn that there is no such thing as an "off year" election.
