Free trade has done more to alleviate global poverty than basically anything else. Why do protectionists hate poor people so much?  Protectionism would hurt the global poor the most.

Which version: the 19th century one or the late 20th century one? Different reasons for each.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

I agree that out-and-out protectionists have their heads up their asses, but it's very possible to criticize in good faith the specific form that free trade actually takes in practice (e.g. the "free trade for manufactured goods, protectionism for the professions" model, or the insistence on exporting the United States' draconian copyright and patent regime all over creation).

I'm not concerned with the "global poor", whatever the hell that means.

Does anyone have proof of this besides the Cato Institute?

Obviously the "free trade" agreements we have now are shoddy as hell, but left wing nationalism is an absurdity. "Ah it's terrible if Foreign elites are pissing on my head! I want an elite who speaks my own language to piss on my head! He'd do it way more effectively!!!"

Just because somebody has the same skin colour or "cultural upbringing" or religion or language or ethnicity as you doesn't mean they're your friend, and they will exploit the ordinary people just as hard as anybody else.
