Today, Portuguese parliament voted a motion to condemn the chemical attack in Syria that killed many people, including children. It was approved by all parties expect the Communists. This infuriated all parties especially CDS who criticized the Communists. The Communists responded saying that there is an investigation on who made the attack and that we should wait for it.

Really?? This is pathetic!! The PCP sometimes have some inexplicable positions and this is one of them. Sad

I actually have to agree with the bolded part. The west is jumping at definitive conclusions too early and with too little actual intel.

Same as here, the orthodox communist still see Assad as defending "progressive Arabic policy" against imperialism and proxies (jihadist). The USSR is dead yet they still take their orders from Moscow.

Essentially this. Old Communist linexpensive of US imperialism but looking the other way on Russian intervention/atrocities.

Not just old communists. The Kremlin is putting a lot of money in various European parties, ranging from left all the way to far right, to have sympathetic voices.

I don't really understand (or maybe I'm not being familiar enough with Portuguese politics) what they motivations are. On the surface it looks like a obstinate contrarianism.

Sorry for the name translation error. Thanks for correcting Kalwejt. Smiley

They always had weird positions, like asking for a vote of sorrow for the death of Kim Jong-il

For real?
