Don Boudreaux, chair of the George Mason University's Economics dept.

...Uncle Sam is on the verge of paying the City of Los Angeles $30 million to subsidize a ten-year run of Cirque du Soleil.

So it's finally come to pass - America has embarked on the same road down which ancient Rome marched to its ruin: Uncle Sam not only subsidizes bread (by subsidizing wheat production) but now also circuses.

Yes, the amount spent is encouraging but inadequate.  You silly moralists need to get over the idea that 'spending money' is 'bad'.

you know, it's not that hard to insert a link.

If something is "official" it shouldn't be to hard to get one - and these boards have seen plenty of hacks shouting something as a certainty when it was only a vague rumor.

In addition, a subsidized loan is not the same thing as a subsidy.  Loans come with an expectation of payback.

Whether a loan is necessary for such a successful operation is perhaps questionable, just as it is for sports stadiums - but it is very different than a raw giveaway.
