Louisiana and Mississippi are probably French. 

Mississippi might be Italian.  Metro New Orleans might even have more Italian Catholics than French.

All of NOLA has more French Catholics than Italian Catholics by far. Mississippi is also certainly French.

I've lived here for 30 of the last 35 years and if the Italians aren't more numerous than the French, they are certainly more noticeable.

Well, I am married to a LaFleur, so have some awareness of the French, and yes the French in Nola are more genteel (not so much coonass) while the Italians made the Yats what the are.  Again, I don't know which group is larger in the metro but I think it's close.
