Sticking with my lifetime...

Walter Mondale
George H.W. Bush

Otherwise, I think the Presidents were better than the VPs.  Though in some cases, it would be close -- like Gore or Rockefeller.

What about VP candidates who would have made better Presidents than their counterpart at the top of the ticket?

The best known is probably Lloyd Bentsen. Can't think of any others, as I preferred Kerry to Edwards, Bush to Quayle, Dole to Kemp and etc.

I preferred Edwards to Kerry, Bentsen to Dukakis, Bush to Reagan, and Johnson to Kennedy, since 1960.

No, he just hates FDR.  Note he separated Truman > FDR and All of FDR's VPs > FDR because Truman was the only one he knew.

Ford was a do nothing, Nixon was one of the most competent presidents since Polk.

You speak the truth.

Mondale > Carter
Bush > Reagan
Coolidge > Harding
Gore (circa 1990s) > Clinton
Nixon > Eisenhower
I'm not sure how Mondale would be better. Carter was at least a moderate to conservative with some good ideas even if he had no idea how to get them through Congress. Mondale was just a run of the mill Liberal, exactly what America didn't need in the late '70s. And Ike's Presidency would be hard to improve upon except in areas which Nixon definitely wouldn't have stuck his neck out on (more aggressive anti-Segregation efforts & condemning McCarthyism).

Other than that I agree with your list though.

Not the only one I knew, just the only I could definetively say would be better than FDR, the others were sort of unpredictable.  Its not just unthinkable that any of FDR's VPs could have been worse unless they were like Abe Lincoln or something

Clinton > Jefferson
Van Buren > Jackson
Stevenson > Cleveland
Hobart and Roosevelt > McKinley
Coolidge > Harding
Dawes > Coolidge
Johnson > Kennedy
Humphrey > Johnson
Ford > Nixon
Bush > Reagan
Gore > Clinton

I must say I am not well-acquainted with the Vice Presidents prior to 1933.
