wow, NM is tracking close to the national average. McCain has a shot at it IF he can make up some ground nationally.

Totally agreed these national tracking polls WILL  tighten...although maybe not until deep  into Oct

Heres a little  flashback

October 26 2000 Gallup Tracking Poll

George  Bush 52
Albert Gore 39

We all know Gore  went on to win the Pop vote...

Nothing too terribly exciting or unexpected. I am disappointed.

No, New Mexico just polls very randomly.

The Ambinder post Sam referenced elsewhere said the McCain campaign in NM believes the state favors Obama.

NM is a strange state and apt to do weird things.  If I were McCain, I would stay there, but leave Iowa.

Wait a minute...

If the tracking poll said Bush by 13 a week before election day, not to snipe at you but that doesn't sound like tightening, at least by 1 week before the election standards.

By the way, I'm still not sure what the polls from these 4 states are.

Gallup's tracking poll in 2000 was garbage.

And we had the infamous DUI report on Bush just days before the election, which tightened the race considerably if I remember.

which was totally Bush's fault.  Disclosing it during the cocaine rumors in 1998 would have made it a totally non-issue.
