Question: It's the "break glass in case of emergency" option. It could easily backfire in November. It might not achieve anything. But it might just unlock some spending cuts/policy riders that simply aren't possible otherwise.

I am a former Republican, so I feel entitled to comment: The House should pass a spending bill to keep the government open, they should stop playing all these shutdown games. If the hard right of the caucus wants to remove Johnson over it, then he should do what McCarthy failed to do, and make a deal with Democrats and give them big ticket bills to be voted on in exchange for staying in power. I think that would make everyone happy.

No this is extremely dumb and completely counterproductive. The best thing what the GOP needs to do is keep a firm hand on the national security bill like Mitt Romney advised but do that while keeping the government open.

No. This is a valid tool sometimes (for example I supported the pretty controversial 2013 government shutdown, and I still think that was the right call), but now is not the time for it.

No this would be political suicide that would not only hurt vulnerable house GOP members but could impact other downballot races as well.
