How? He's an accomplished two-term Governor who isn't a nut and is Pro-life.

I always put Riley on the 2016 tier, in my mind. But, if he runs, he will probaly be taking votes from Barbor. Could be a Gingrich or Huckabee stalking horse. But, he is no Buddy Roemor.

I sure am glad that the "Southern white male" constituency will finally be represented in the field of Republican candidates.

As much as I dislike Bob Riley, he's actually two term Governor, reelected in a year bad for Republicans, who left due to term limits less than a month ago. Oh, not to mention he was already considered as possible McCain's running-mate in 2008.

How can you compare him to a failed dude, who lost to David F-king Duke a two decades ago, and accomplished nothing ever since? While I doubt he can win a nomination, he'd be a natural frontrunner for the Vice Presidency, especially is someone like Romney or Huntsman is nominated.

Bad hyperbole. Red.

That's a candidate I wouldn't steal his yardsigns in a dark.

It seems that all three could loose a state potentially and votes because of his entrance. He was a McCain backer in 2008. He also raised taxes at the beginning of his term if I remember (though that may have been another state). I know he was unpopular going in to 2006 and almost lost a primary to Roy Moore but recovered, won the primary and then won the general.

Would be a good runningmate for Pawlenty or Daniels, possibly.

I don't think any Deep South Republican has a real shot. Most are too far-right to appeal to swing voters.

OK; 40 republicans will announce their candidacy... and no one is a good challenger to Obama... maybe huntsman, but he won't get the nomination.

Wasn't there some speculation about him a couple months ago?

I'd say Riley could eclipse Barbour in that demographic, which could butterfly into Daniels being more likely to run if his buddy isn't a serious contender Tongue

A two-term successful Governor who can capture conservatives. Decent shot if he runs.

The same could be said about Massachusetts Senate Democrats. Yet one of those somehow got a nomination.

I know that. I just casually mentioned Wallace knowing someone would make the comparison.

Well, maybe it will slow Huckabee down - if he runs - and it is not clear in my mind that he will be.

The nomination wasn't what I was talking about, I was referring to the general. Kerry lost, but he wasn't perceived to being way out of the mainstream. A Republican from Alabama is absolutely unacceptable to many swing voters, just based on perception.

Yes, Yes, Yes - by splitting the southern evangelical vote, it means Romney wins the nomination!
