Long stretches of monotony interrupted by brief glimpses of WTF (although perhaps it would have made more sense if I had seen it with subtitles), along with a shocking amount of implied nudity for a film about prepubescent children. There was one dude who kind of looked like Lewis Trondheim, though.

Fascinating movie, and surprisingly funny. I found myself wishing it were much longer than it was.

Shame.

Great movie.  I really wish we had more quality NC-17 American films.  I think we're ready as a nation for it.  Something as dark as Shame isn't profitable, but I bet something like Magic Mike could have still made just as much money as an NC-17.

I doubt it; it would be much harder to market something out-and-out pornographic and make it socially acceptable for the women of America to go to the theater and watch.

Not that I disagree, but plenty of awful movies have had great songs (for example, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker).
