I never understood peoples' issue with Walter. His set of views never struck me as very odd (and may in fact be fairly typical of a Swedish liberal) and given those views it makes sense that he was a Republican at the time and a Democrat now.

That isn't really a political position and probably something he does to be provocative. Clarence admires Hillary Clinton, but it doesn't make him a Democrat.
