Quick Google gives a range of 78,000 to 700,000. Idk if there are any population distribution maps online, but I'd imagine this map of gurdwaras can make for a decent proxy.

If nothing else, the concentrations in interior California and Queens (there's apparently a Punjab Way in SE Queens) match with what I've read. I think there's also a fairly large population in the Bay Area. I've been gurdwara in San Jose and that place was large.
