That would be like naming Jimmy Carter as the 39th President in 1961, or Bill Clinton as the 42nd President in 1975.

Uh, the 47th Vice President will be the man (or woman) that takes the office of the Vice Presidency on January 20, 2009. So, it'd be the equivalent of naming Al Gore the 45th Vice President in November 1990 or Walter Mondale the 42nd Vice President of the United States in November 1974.
