I just noticed the karma ratings also.  From what I can tell, I have the most polarized karma so far, with +2/-2.  Does that mean that two people gave me a positive and two people gave me a negative?

I don't really consider myself a heavy poster, and I usually only participate in a limited range of topics, so I find it interesting that I would have what appears to be the most polarized karma so far.  There are people who go out of their way to be inflammatory who don't have a -2 karma rating.  Very interesting.  It leads me to believe that the negative ratings may be based on disagreement with my opinions.

I gave you a positive point, in case you were wondering. Smiley

Thanks, man.  I didn't think the negative points came from you.  Do you know what the basis was for selecting those who give karma ratings?

I don't know if I like this system. People here take my posts way too seriously sometimes; I hope they don't get Karma abilities.

How come I don't have karma powers?  I'm a regular Karma Chameleon!

No love.

Oh wow, I've been granted Karma Power. I appreciate being entrusted with the capacity to assess the posts of other folks on the board. As a former college teacher, I've assessed students of varying points of view and from all backgrounds and I will be exceedingly fair. I'll assign a minus for the rare, nasty cases where someone is spamming, threatening, or being insulting on purpose, etc. (basically for what others have said they will assign minuses for). Likewise, a plus will go to anyone who contributes something positive or useful to the forum and not because I may agree with them.

I was never a hard grader, but I wasn't an easy one either - I have to be impressed or thoroughly repulsed for the A or F, respectively. Wink

I noticed that Harry also has a +2/-2 karma rating.  I don't see how he got two negative points.  I can't remember ever seeing a negative or inflammatory post by him.

Is there any way to see for which posts we got a negative rating?  It would assist in the self-regulating process if we knew what we should be avoiding in terms of post material

This is kind of a troll-ish posting in and of itself, so sorry in advance.

I don't see any Karma scores for anyone, myself included.  Has it been taken off or am I just not seeing where it is posted?

In the middle of an election, partisan activity is bound to outstrip objective analysis.

As long as people are respectful of their opponent's point-of-view, that's all that should matter.

FDR, FDR, and FDR.

FDR spent more as a % of the economy than Bush is, Ran up bigger deficits as a % of the economy, and interned the Japanese-Americans.

By the way, when will your O'Reilly segment be airing?

Is he still a veteran from Florida or what?

Anyway, I very much agree with the topic of the original post.

Dave, instead of an elite forum, I think we can do better.  Some of the most intelligent posts are by people with under 100 posts.  Why not an Ignore feature?  I don't have to see any posts or threads by person X if I don't wish to.

I somewhat agree.  An ignore feature would be great, but then you would run into the case where some people would just ignore everyone that they disagree with, so that would hurt their cause.  Maybe instead of a simple ignore feature, there should be a vote.  A super majority vote would be required to vote a troll off, so say what . . . 75% minimum with at least 75 people voting?  That way, it would require mass approval, and a person can't claim that he's being singled out by just some core group.  Just another option.

The other way is to merely ignore the person while scrolling through the posts, but that becomes nearly impossible when they start spamming every thread.

Leave your rhetoric, spamming, lying, and everything else off the site, and you got it.  Otherwise, well . . . read this thread.
