Eisenhower(D)-KS 439 EV (votes for 1950s states)
Nixon(R)-CA 192 EV

Nixon runs as an ametuer, but gets the Republican nomination.  At this point the Republicans realise that Eisenhower will most likely win, so they have no problem with putting up someone who is likely to lose and won't hurt their party.  He wins re-election, but the GOP takes the congress in 1958 and takes back the white house in 1960 landslide with Goldwater.  Goldwater's second running mate Ronald Reagan is elected in office in 1968.

What if Eisenhower picks Stevenson as his VP and Nixon picks MacArthur? Do you think that'd have any effect?
