MT-SEN: Baucus resigns

The second Schweitzer screw-up in trying to cost National Democrats a Senate seat and possibly control of the Senate. This was the man who Schweitzer picked in 2002 to run with him which gained the slate a lot of criticism, but over time, helped Bohlinger out a lot from Schweitzer's popularity, and now he wants to use that to pretend like he's a Democrat and attempt to primary his successor as Lt. Governor, John Walsh. It's pretty much a Bullock vs. Schweitzer matchup here, guys. Bullock appointed Walsh and something tells me Schweitzer is behind encouraging Bohlinger to run after Schweitzer dropped out in disgrace.

If we do lose this seat because of this now brutal Democratic primary, then Hillary has even more baggage to attack Schweitzer with for 2016. I wouldn't even trust Bohlinger to run for a second term if he was elected because of his old age and he would probably leave us hanging, to. Him and Schweitzer are giving the middle finger to Harry Reid and it just goes to show they can't be trusted to represent us on a federal level. Walsh, on the other hand, at least understands that this needs to be a race about preserving Senate control and attacking the far-right Daines for his extreme views on abortion and Medicare and vote for the govt shutdown. Walsh, thankfully has the backing of Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Jon Tester, but I just hope he doesn't get hurt from this primary because it's bad enough that it's a little known Senator trying to get re-elected in Montana, but another to risk getting primaried by a DINO while Daines has a free ride to the nomination with little opposition.

Not because this guy is a very popular congressman, but because Schweitzer screwed everything up and encouraged a challenger to run?

That was the consensus among some even before these news. We were relying on Schweitzer to run in the first place after Baucus's retirement only to decline over allegations. And over time in this campaign, Walsh can turn Daines into the exact opposite, but with Bohlinger as a nuisance and threat now, he'll have to take time and money out of his own campaign and can't settle on just Daines until he beats out Bohlinger.

He declined because he honestly didn't want to be a Senator. He'd been saying it for years. He wants to be President, and he's running in 2016 regardless of what Hillary does.

Actually, following Baucus's retirement, sources show he was "leaning towards" a run, but declined since he doesn't want to give up his new, luxurious life post-Governorship. He also said a Presidential run would "ruin his life" so it sounds like he's done. It would be absolutely absurd of him to pass a Senate race where he would be the front runner only to run (and fail) against Hillary 2 years later in the Democratic primary.

The main point is, Schweitzer couldn't pull through for Democrats when we needed him most and needed the strongest candidate possible without Senator Baucus running. Yet when Dems regained momentum in getting a Senator appointed to increase their chances, Schweitzer gets involved when we don't need him at all in attempting to get Bohlinger the seat at the cost of possibly losing this seat now to Republicans. It's becoming more and more obvious that he doesn't care about the Democratic Party.
