this is btw what happens everytime if a nationalist/populist takes over a party right now.

he becomes famous by insulting each and every sub-group, breaks all limits in regard to honesty and cilvil discourse, promises to break all institutions and make his enemies (real and imagined) pay for their failures....


.... and then act all surprised and disappointed in society, if other people think he MEANS it the way he tells it.

poisoining political discourse was one of trump's bigger goals....otherwise his outlook would have been even worse.
