Maybe it's time to start launching attack ads against Bredesen in order to hammer his positive ratings. After all, the attack ads against Bob Dole in the 1996 Republican primaries decreased his positive ratings from 80 % to approximately 54 %.

If Bredesen wins this year Tim McGraw might run for Alexander's open seat.

What else makes you certain that Alexander won’t run himself in 2020 except his age (80 years old in 2020)?

Personally, I hope Alexander runs for Senate again in 2020 but even if he doesn’t I could see Bill Haslam running for this seat.

Surely Blackburn/national Republicans realize that they can’t win this race without giving Bredesen the Bayh/Strickland treatment, right? Not a surprise that TN voters (including a lot of so-called moderate “Republicans”) would prefer the good ol' boy over the shrill female any time.

Yeah, this race proves to me that Tennessee hates women to the point they'll vote for a liberal man over one.

And how is it that the Cato Institute, a fiscally conservative institute, rated him only 53 % on overall fiscal policy score, 57 % on spending and 56 % on taxes?

I should note that Blackburn/GOP is currently spending nothing right now in Tennessee, while Bredesen is spending millions. This is allowing Bredesen to further define himself and establish his positives before the inevitable GOP spending juggernaut comes.

So basically the Rick Scott strategy, no?

Anyway, the fact that there are so many competitive Senate races/Democratic Senators in Republican states is a serious problem for the GOP, especially in the long run. If the situation were reversed and Charlie Baker or Phil Scott were running for Senate, they’d lose by 15+ points even in a GOP wave year.

They'd probably win if their opponent was a rape apologist or a pedophile. Unfortunately for the GOP the Democrats don't tend to nominate these people as candidates.

But you’re still ignoring the other things Bredesen did while governor. These few positions/actions that you listed does not make Bredesen “liberal.” That’s like me calling Trump a “moderate” because he was working with the Dems to repeal the debt ceiling.

Actually Trump is called « moderate » because he supported Bill Clinton's assault weapons, was pro-choice and in January 2008  he said « Embrace globalization and international markets »  before he changed his position.
