I urge the Senate to pass this bill. Anyone who opposes this is probably a hypocrite. We all looked at porn when we were under 18. And if you somehow managed to avoid it, then please understand that most teenagers do. Let's not be hypocrites here.

That doesn't make us hypocrites. I drink, I'm 18, and I support a 21 legal age.

No, that makes you a hypocrite, unless you're reporting yourself to the police every time you drink.

No it doesn't. It simply makes me a lawbreaker.

...of a law you support, which makes you a hypocrite.

Full legal access to porn is one of the last of these rights that any adolecent should "enjoy".

Perhaps, but it is heavily naive to assume that teenagers do not consume pornography anyway.

The more laws which are openly ignored, the less seriously people take the law in general.

I think the central question is in this debate is, do we want laws on the books that are unenforceable and broken hundreds and thousands of times every day? Whether or not you buy the argument that pornography damages a teenager's sexual and psychological development (which I don't, because if it did, most of the men in this country would be sex offenders), the fact is that whether or not this law exists, teenagers will continue to "illegally" look at porn. I believe that laws that cannot be enforced and are not enforced should not be on the books, as they ultimately illegitimate the power of the government to enforce the laws that actually need to be enforced, to keep people safe. This bill would, I believe, really have no effect on anybody's life, if passed. All it would do is get rid of a stupid and useless law that accomplishes nothing but prove to teenagers that they can get away with breaking the law and no one will care.

Once again, I strongly urge the Senate to pass this. The current law is effectively useless and does nothing to curb teenage use of pornography. We should strive to make sure that all laws are enforceable, and in cases where they are clearly not, they should be abolished.
