And I actually have to dissent on something lots of people seem to be assuming: in American politics, usually when moderates switch parties they become hardcore partisans. Moderate Republican Specter became liberal Democrat Specter. On the other hand, moderate Democrat Nathan Deal became hard-conservative Republican Deal. I expect a similar process to occur with Crist -- he could well attempt to position himself as a 'leftist' candidate in primaries.
Deal was never a moderate.
