Well, looks like this bombshell turned out to be a dud. And this is rosenstein saying it, someone who over the last few days has gained respect from the left. So save the character assassinations for another article.

Looks like NYT's source on this particular claim stretched the truth a bit.

Re: the bolded part: Nice try, but I'm pretty sure most Democrats understand that Rosenstein is just trying to save what little of his reputation he can.  Even if it manages not to drown, people aren't going to respect a rat just because it jumps off a sinking ship and that's all Rosenstein is: A rat scuttling over the side of the Titanic a praying it lands on a life raft.  Better luck next time
