And by 'equivalent name recognition', I mean that each are well-known by the time they decide to run in the 2012 GOP primaries and caucuses.

There's already been polls like this, and this one doesn't even fix the problem of not including Gary Johnson and Ron Paul.

Hey, Konrad Adenauer led West Germany in the tense days of the Cold War to the age of 87.

True, but if you look at America's oldest serving President (Reagan), you generally think twice about allowing it again.

I don't think Reagan's poor presidency could be attributed to his age. Reagan just had poor principles and was wrong on the issues. Ron Paul has good principles and is correct on the issues.

If each had the same name recognition, I think John Thune would win. My other two were Romney and Daniels.

At this point I note that Huckabee and Romney are tied.

Huckabee has the lower floor for electoral votes but a lower ceiling; Romney has the lower floor but the higher ceiling. Romney is likely to do better than Huckabee in states that the GOP nominee has practically no chance of winning in the general election -- New England, the Great Lakes region (except Indiana and Ohio), and the West Coast -- in the primaries.

It's a tough choice.

Is there a particular reason Gary Johnson was not included in this?

Electoral votes?  There are no electoral votes in the primaries.

It's going to be between Romney and Huckabee, pitting the two major wings of the GOP against each other. Each potential nominee could have significant consequences on the future direction of the party.

Probably Huckabee.

It's sad, considering that a Palin nomination would guarantee a 450+ EV landslide for Obama.
