I looked at the Conservatives, and while I liked the part about them deepening ties with the United States, I just happened to have more agreement with the NDP.  Canada simply isn't a country I am concerned enough about to care about how they view the United States.

Japan, on the other hand...

Huh

I could understand joining it in the past (patronage is a powerful motivator), but to join a machine patronage party that no longer has the power to reward its faithful?  That'd be like joining PRI in 2001.

Do yourself a favor and drop the condescension.

The LDP just strikes me as the more pro-American of the political parties -I don't like how the DPJ has seemed to be trying to loosen the alliance between the United States and Japan through their desire to renegotiate base agreements and in general stirring up trouble whenever American military forces seemed to be concerned.  And I am not going to approve of that.

The DPJ aren't going to worsen US relations, unless you consider requesting US troops be removed from Japan, but of course that would be better for the US as well.

France - Eh, PS usually, one of the radical communists if I was in a safe district or there was no risk of a Chirac/Le Pen type scenario again.

Now you're confusing legislative and presidential elections.

If you were as concerned as I am about China's growing military might (especially under an authoritarian government that they have now), then you would understand my desire to keep American troops in Japan (as well as South Korea, Guam, and elsewhere in East Asia -I just wish we still had those bases in the Philippines) to keep China in check as a counter-balance.

China is not ever going to attack the US in any way militarily, as that would lead to an end of them selling their cheap garbage in the US and a complete devastation of their economy.

I am not concerned about China attacking the United States -I am concerned about them militarily dominating in East Asia, and upsetting the balance of power which is currently in our favor.

South Korea - Creative Korea Party
Japan - DPJ I suppose.
Canada - Liberals or greens.
Australia - Liberal Democratic Party or for Labor if i need to vote for a viable party.

Not sure if this is a good idea as I'll just end up looking like something of an SI hack (and as being a hack goes, how utterly unsexy is that?) but, eh. Why not. Using ag's list of countries because it's the longest:

US: DSA, which means voting for the Democrats (as less-than-great as they are) most of the time. Occasional votes for random fringe nutters when appropriate.
UK: Labour
France: Plural Left (if that term is still used) but no loyalty to any party, because I have serious issues with the PS and, obviously, there are a different set of issues with the other Left parties.
Germany: SPD
Italy: I would vote for the PD, but... sigh. In the First Republic Italy would have been pretty much the only place where I'd have supported the Commies.
Spain: PSOE
Catalunya: PSC
Israel: I have a sentimental liking for Labour, despite everything. I'll leave it at that.
South Korea: they're all awful. None of the right-wing parties and not the Democrats either. The smaller leftish parties look a little crazed as well, but probably one of those...
Japan: SDP. Which, of course, means voting DPJ in most single-member constituencies.
Canada: NDP
Australia: ALP
South Africa: ANC
India: not for any of the parties in the BJP-led coalition. Beyond that, mostly a case of looking carefully at individual candidates...
Poland: I don't know, probably SDPL.
Chile: Socialists
Brazil: I can never remember enough about the various parties to comment for sure. Would have voted for Lula though.
Denmark: Social Democrats
Netherlands: PvdA
Mexico: PRD but would not have voted for AMLO.

...of course in countries where you have to vote for individual candidates, there will always be people in parties I support that I could never vote for.

More interesting, perhaps, is where people would stand on internal divisions within given parties Grin

US: Most Democrats would be getting my vote if in a close race or absolutely no acceptable alternative is listed on the ballot. (see my Senate endorsement history for how this might look)
UK: One of those places where I need to look at candidates and who can win, in approximate order of Green-Nat-LD-assorted Trot-Labour. Which probably means Labour in about half the constituencies...
France: Green? Obviously locals and parliamentary elections you need to look at candidates again. The smaller evil in runoffs.
Germany: Usually Green or Left. Not really content with either, still more closely identifying with the Greens. Voted Pirate as a protest recently, not really intending to make a habit out of it.
Italy: I want the First Republic's voting system back (if not much else about it). I think I'll make a commitment to that a condition for voting for the main center-left candidate in any first round  election.
Spain: PSOE. We have no alternatives (except Esquerra and BNG and such. And EA.)  and Zapatero seems highly decent for a major party leader.
Catalunya: Esquerra (see above)
Israel: Meretz or an Arab party.
South Korea: they're all awful. Militant South Korean unionists are cool, though.
Japan: DPJ in most single-member constituencies. DPJ or some fringe outfit for lists.
Canada: NDP
Australia: Green
South Africa: ANC
India: not for any party currently allied to the  BJP in the state in question.
Poland: SDA still around?
Chile: Socialists
Brazil: I can never remember enough about the various parties to comment for sure. Would have voted for Lula though.
Denmark: Socialist Left
Netherlands: Socialist or GreenLeft. D66 have been working with the right a couple times too often now.
Mexico: PRD but would had to swallow very very hard indeed before voting for AMLO.

Can't remember which one (Actually you mentioned here before - it's (ex?) leader being a former concentration camp survivor. It might be KPD (RM) - both are tragically cool in their own way. Perhaps I should join both?

MLPD is, basically, the one of our old Stalinist sects that has survived and is here to stay. It used to be once upon a time, assemble a dozen Stalinists who've broken with East Berlin, and you've the total membership of eleven Stalinist parties and the total former membership of 36 defunct Stalinist parties.
The (late) chairman of the group it evolved out of was a concentration camp survivor (and a Remscheid KPD city councillor at the tail end of the Weimar Republic), and I've mentioned that on here, so I guess you're thinking of that.

Don't know what SDA is or was, but the LiD electoral coalition fell apart in 2008.

Since we seem to be doing other countries;

South Africa: DA
India: Most probably INC
Poland: Probably PO, though I hate them all, though PO is preferable to PiS. If not them, then that small 'liberal' party Dem.pl or something.
Chile: PRSD or PS, though I might be tempted to vote for Piñera in December.
Brazil: Either PMDB, PSDB or Greens. I might have voted for Lula in 2005, but would vote for Serra in 2010
Denmark: Radical Left/Social Liberal
Norway: Liberals
Netherlands: D66
Mexico: Realistically, probably PAN. The Greens are crooks, the PANAL is also a bunch of shady figures and I think the PSD lost registration.

Oh yes, India. Obviously, I could never support the BJP. The Congress is made of monarchists, so they're probably out. I don't like the Communist Party of Indira, and the CPI(ML) was practically a Pakistani fifth column in 1971.

But, of course, it all depends on the constituency.

(Bump)

US: Ralph Nader or whoever the main left-wing fringe candidate is
UK: A lot may depend on the result of the upcoming Labour Party Leadership Elections. Probably the Greens at the moment.
France: Probably the Greens or one of the various Marxist parties.
Germany: Probably The Left.
Italy: Probably The Left.
Spain: United Left. The main centre-left party has a misleading name....
Catalunya: Republican Left.
Israel: Hadash.
South Korea: Socialist Party. The main ones aren't much to write home about....
Japan: SDP, I suppose.
Canada: Greens.
Australia: Greens.
South Africa: Probably the ANC.
India: Hmmmm....tricky. Probably one of the various minor left-wing parties.
Poland: Labour Party.
Chile: One of the parties in the Juntos Podemos Más.
Brazil: Greens
Denmark: Socialist People's Party
Netherlands: Socialist Party
Mexico: Social Democratic and Peasant Alternative Party

I'll stick with parties that have parliamentary representation:

USA: GOP

UK: Hmm . . . do I have more in common with "Orange Book" Lib Dems or Thatcherite Tories?  I'll go with the Tories.

France: UMP (classical liberal wing)

Germany: FDP

Italy: People of Freedom (classical liberal wing)

Spain: PP

Israel: Blech.  Probably one of the Arab parties.

South Korea: GNP

Japan: Your Party

Canada: Tories

Australia: Liberals
