Examples of this include Jeff Van Drew between 2018 and 2020, Jim Justice between 2016 and 2020, and Dick Shelby and Ben Nighthorse Campbell, both between 1992 and 1998. How did their bases of support evolve between the first year and the second?

I was wondering this too. Given there was a quite large increase in turnout from 2018 to 2020, maybe for Jeff Van Drew it was:

14% New Voters for Van Drew
34% Grossman -> Van Drew
5% Van Drew -> Van Drew
35% Van Drew-> Kennedy
12% New Voters for Kennedy

Just a Guess, but this seems plausible.

Can anyone think of an example of a politician who switched parties and then lost their subsequent general election?
