When did the early voting start?  If it was before the 1st Debate, then the voters had already written off Romney, and never saw him speak. 

It probably wouldn't have made a difference for those Obama voters, but I can image a few of them wanting to change their minds after seeing the first debate. 

If we didn't have debates, then elections would just be based on Commercials and the Conventions.  As a voter, I would think other voters would want more information before making a final decision.  It kinda defeats the purpose of a democracy, otherwise we can just have Ward bosses make the votes for us.
