Once there's a single poll showing Forrester ahead, I won't consider that the case anymore.

So let's say two polls show Corzine up by maybe one or two points. That's not a tossup? That means it's still locked up?

Outliers are usually thrown out.

Corzine is basically in the position Kerry was in Minnesota for almost all of the campaign.

Corzine has been a huge favorite from day 1. Even a close race is hard to spin as a big win for an incumbent Senator Democrat in NJ. That will weaken him politically-- not a lot, but enough that maybe he will have less say over who to appoint in his place.

I'm just smiling at the headline: "Menendez appointed to fill Corzine's seat."

You and Liddy will sh**t a brick if that headline reads "Codey to fill Corzines seat."

The New York Times Poll:

Corzine 46%
Forrester 37%

This poll was done October 14-19 among 750 likely voters.

Monmouth University/Gannett Poll:

Corzine 45%
Forrester 38%

This poll was also done October 14-19, but they could only round up 371 likely voters.

Not happening.

I know, but Im still in denial.  I dont understand why Codey wants to stay in Trenton when he could be in Washington with the big dogs.

Menendez has over $4 million COH currently.  Hopefully he'll hold off until 2008.

I would like to see Corzine (if he wins the election) appoint Richard Codey or Rush Holt to his seat.

I read about that yesterday.  Thats some serious cash for a safe incumbent congressman.

Could be.  Could be an early break.

Could also be two rotten polls.  NYT is not very good when they run their own polls, and 371 is a joke of a sample.

Yes, theres been alot of media speculation about Forrester alleged ties with no bid contracts with the son of Senator Bill Gromley, the boss of the Atlantic County Republicans.

Here is the reason why Codey should be appointed to the Senate:

"Numerous surveys indicate that Mr. Codey, a Democrat, is the most popular politician in the state. A New York Times Poll, conducted from Oct. 14 to Oct. 19, found that 61 percent of likely voters said they approved of Mr. Codey's performance, and only 12 percent said that their opinion was "not favorable." Among Republicans, 48 percent approved of the job he is doing."

Come on, Nick. The supposed "bombshell" is that Corzine has an illegitimate child. Totally ridiculous rumor being put out there by rightwing blogs.

It won't go anywhere and reeks of desperation. The GOP will say or do anything to smear their opponents. It's time we stop giving credence to their ridiculous claims.

Whoa there, Scoonie.  I had no idea what the 'bombshell' was.  I just heard there was something big about to go down.  I had no idea it was this big, and according to you false.

Alright, my bad.

This "bombshell" has been on a few right-wing blogs for days now. I don't expect it to gain any traction. There is nothing beneath the Republican party when it comes to elections.

Apparently it doesnt help that much.  McCain was in town on the 21st.  The latest SUSA Poll was conducted the 22-24th.  Results below...

A visit here and there from popular out of state Republicans isnt going to flip this race.  Something big needs to happen.  For example, if those 'illegitimate children' rumors were actually found to be true.  It would be lights out for Corzine.

Wally Edge of NJ Politics:

Joseph Tomanelli, a conservative activist from Bergen County who heads the New Jersey Republican Assembly, has withdrawn his endorsement of GOP gubernatorial candidate Douglas Forrester, citing a TV commercial from former Governor Thomas Kean touting Forrester's moderate, pro-choice credentials and a letter from former Governor Christine Todd Whitman criticizing conservative extremism in the Republican Party.

Looks like the Carl Riccio Ad (Stem Cell Research) is stirring up a little bit of controversy in this race.

Forrester relased this response to the ad:
