Not surprised by this, and if he wants a fourth term I think it's pretty safe to say he's got it. Could even see him going on for a fifth - after all he is far from the oldest incumbent governor.

Governor's overstaying their welcome usually creates the best scenarios for the opposing party to win. Mario Cuomo & Scott Walker come to mind.
I hear you about Scott Walker but he only ever won by single-digit margins in one of the swingiest states around and was himself only unseated by a very narrow margin in a year when D's had everything else going in their favor.

I would stake generously on Abbott winning comfortably again in 2026 regardless of the national environment.
