I liked Flim and Flam.

Anyone read the graphic novels? A guy at work today was talking about them. First one is only $1.99 on iTunes, might check it out.

So, I bothered to watch an episode, S3 E10. It certainly isn't anything loathesome, not by any standard, but... it's a kid's show, and for particularly young ones at that (I'm imagining girls aged 5-9). I don't see the appeal. It isn't artistically or dramatically exceptional by any standard (even in contrast to other children's shows like Rugrats or Hey Arnold), it isn't funny, it isn't witty, but it isn't any kind of terrible either. I don't see the appeal, but I don't see why people hate it- I don't see any reasons for having any sort of strong opinion of it . I can kind of see why people react to others liking the show- there's no apparent reason for grown adults would want to watching it, unless they had a predilection for elementary moralizing tales, which is, indeed, bizarre. But I'm not judging.

Watch any of the season premires. Those are "Epics" and not standard sitcom fare like that episode.

The plotline of the first series is about Queen Chrysalis returning and fillynapping the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and the mane six ponies out to rescue them.

He only watched the very last issued, and it doesn't seem to be anyway near the best so far.

Very few people hate the show itself; that's more directed towards the fans themselves. As for the appeal, some of it comes from the very fact that it's "childish". On the other hand, there are some genuinely well-written episodes and moments (the one you watched has been particularly divisive, actually ), and the occasional cultural reference (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS4LrRRcbCM) or a so-called "parental bonus" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt3y4jkVvr0).

Also, the animation's really good.

Perhaps, but I don't really see anything that makes it worth watching over Hey Arnold, Rocko's Modern Life, or even Spongebob. All contain far more references, for one thing,

It's probably better to judge it imagining as if you had a kid who liked it and you watched it with them instead of finding out about it from the brony fanbase. Would you be thinking "Oh yeah I would definitely rather watch this than most of the kids stuff on TV"? That's the attitude of one of my co-workers who has three daughters, an 8-year old and 3-year old twins. And she likes watching the show with them.

Actually, this would be my closest bet.

I don't know if the cider is supposed to be alcoholic, but if it is so, Rainbow Dash sure appears to be quite the boozer...

"Cider" here is just thicker apple juice, while in Europe it refers specifically to an alcoholic beverage which is called "hard cider" in the US/Canada. Given that the show is made by Americans and Canadians, and that it's for children, I'll presume it isn't (though the fact that it's fizzy and in a mug could be an attempt to sneak it through).

The Flim Flam Brothers were quite clearly a reference to Harold Hill, and the song a reference to "Ya Got Trouble".

Thoughts on Just For Sidekicks?

I really liked it (it should also be noted that Gummy is my favorite character ). Corey Powell has so far written this episode and Sleepless in Ponyville, both of which are among the better episodes of this season. Hope he stays on for Season 4 and beyond!

I say Pinkie is more annoying. I like the CMC. I don't hate Pinkie though, I don't hate any character other than Angel Bunny and Prince Blueblood.
