Just why do you think the narrow sides of the houses faced the street in the historical south of Broad Charleston hood?  Hint: it's the same reason pads lacked closets (and instead had 6' x 4' "sewing rooms") across the Fruited Plain east of the Rockies. An example is this floor plan of an historic home in Winterset, Iowa:

If I'm not mistaken, during the colonial era didn't the British tax a house more if its front faced the street? I've heard people mention that before, but I've never done any research on it.

I would definitely live there, it looks quaint.
