If their was any doubt that collins would vote to confirm Kavanaugh it was put to rest when the resistance idiots attempted to bribe her and then threatened her staff.

Promising to donate to her opponent is not a bribe. It is a threat. One that is quite legal in our plutocracy, to the best of my understanding.

It's actually pretty much what the Supreme Court mandated: Money is Speech.

Susan Collins is an extremist right wing reactionary who doesn't like to be challenged.

Citizens United as I understand it specifically left the door open for bans on quid pro quo political spending.  I don't think the Court would find against this group but would make for an interesting case.

But this isn’t quid pro quo spending.

quid pro quo: "a favor or advantage granted or expected in return for something." - If Collins votes against Kavanaugh, this group does her the 'favor' of returning the $1M they've collected to donors rather than giving it to whoever the eventual D nominee is.

Kavanaugh has responded to a large number of follow-up questions from members of the Judiciary Committee. Read his responses here: https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Kavanaugh%20Responses%20to%20Questions%20for%20the%20Record.pdf

Questions came from all Democratic Members of the Committee, plus GOP members Chuck Grassley and Jeff Flake.

While the full senate has only a pro forma session tomorrow, the Judiciary Committee will still meet at 10 AM ET. They'll vote on a number of lower court nominations and officially "hold over" the Kavanaugh nomination to their meeting on Thursday, September 20. A stream will be available on the committee website.

Perhaps, though it’s fairly strained from the definition. And it’s 100% not a bribe.

Either Collins is retiring in 2020 or she really is oblivious to how precarious a situation her political career is in. She's pissed off Republicans to the point she may very well lose her primary, and if she does survive she has to somehow win over all the democrats shes pissing off now. I know its tricky finding a happy middle, but Collins seems to have given up entirely on finding it.
You are deluding yourself if you think kavanaugh will matter in 2020, you'll throw a long temper tantrum but once he gets confirmed you'll find another shiny object, just like how all of you have forgotten about children at the border

The 3rd justice will be even more fun.

He'll probably get to replace Thomas before 2020. But there wont be nearly as much of a fight since his replacement wont change the makeup of the court.
There's a good chance Trump replaces thomas before 2020 if the republicans keep control of the senate, the chance Trump replaces RBG or Breyer also increases dramatically if he gets re-elected (both are getting up there in terms of age). So if Trump is re-elected it is not inconceivable for him to have the opportunity to name 5 scotus judges during his tenure

🤔

Obviously this is some cover-ass from Collins, who we all knew would vote for Kavanaugh as long as he didn't make it too obvious that he'd rule to overturn Roe.

Haha.

Different sources provided different accounts of the contents of the letter, and some of the sources said they themselves had heard different versions, but the one consistent theme was that it describes an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school

It appears Feinstein has been sitting on this letter for weeks, if it were serious she would have passed on much earlier or she would have asked him about it during the hearings. This is a sad hail-mary to attempt to delay his confirmation or gin up support from her idiot base

Hard to see this derail him seeing how Clarence Thomas still sits on the bench.

I knew this guy was shady, but my goodness I didn't expect this. Revelations can be quite surprising sometimes.

Dianne Feinstein with the Hail Mary, I love it! I'd even rename it the Hail Diane! You don't get this type of influence when you primary incumbents with low-energy millennials

By the time the FBI is able to say, if they say anything at all, about the letter, he'll have been confirmed.

So while the press is going to be interested in this, there's just nothing really here yet to derail or even put into question his nomination.

Maybe she just received it? If it's a letter from a woman who knew Kavanaugh in high school claiming bad behavior, not unrealistic that the woman didn't reach out until the confirmation hearings were already in process, not understanding that that was far too to make any real difference.

Funny to see those in the GOP who cant stand the Orange cultists (the true "idiot base"), so they must DEFLECT in order to just survive another day.

Feinstein isn't the type of person to play games, but of course everything that goes wrong for a Republican has to be someone else's fault or some sort of conspiracy.

Worth treating this with skepticism for now. What would have happened between earlier this summer and today to warrant an FBI referral? Did Feinstein consider the allegations credulous then but credible now?

This. Also, 91% of Republicans voted for a pedo in Alabama. The GOP is an immoral organization that never has cared for sexual misconduct (unless a Democrat does it, of course), and never will.

This won't matter. Clarence Thomas got confirmed, and Kavanaugh will too.
