This is like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube after it's been squeezed out.

The easiest way to shed it is to take a DNA test and release the results. The fact that she hasn't suggests maybe she has already and the results weren't what she expected.

I forget if Warren was ever specific about how many generations back her alleged Native American ancestor sits on her family tree.  If it's like ~10 or more generations back, and all of her other ancestors are European, then there's a chance that it wouldn't show up on a DNA test.  But my recollection is that she implied a more recent connection than that.

She could have gone to Standing Rock, but I guess that would have been too much effort.

This is so bizarre. I don't understand why people are so worked up about this, but I also don't understand why she doesn't just release the DNA. If it shows nothing, just apologize and get it over with. The longer it drags out the worse it is. No ones going to care about the six bills she signed.

*bump*

New story on this from CNN:

"Elizabeth Warren is quietly working to defang Trump's 'Pocahontas' slur as 2020 looms"

16 different meetings with Native American groups and leaders just since March?!?  That is.....something.

If she's running in 2020, this is what she needs to do. No one will remember or care by then if she gets it over with, but it's sure to be a drag on her public image if she keeps this as an issue.

Agreed, and Warren should release the DNA to prevent this from becoming a big thing.

I think it was supposed to be five generations back, which would mean she would be supposed to show up as ~3%, a small but not insignificant number.

DNA tests can often be inaccurate. I don't know if this is an issue that she will ever be rid of...as stupid as it is.

Hillary's e-mails involved issues of criminal law regarding national security.  This issue involves a politician with a not always bearable personality being exposed as a poser for personal gain.

Warren could overcome this if she (A) keeps her mouth shut every time Trump foams at the mouth with a "Pocanontas" comment, and (B) focus on her own personal working-class narrative which IS genuine and suggests that she might actually have real empathy for workers and their plight.  I don't know if her ego will allow her to do this, however.

Growing up, my family always told me that we had some Native American ancestry.

Then I took a DNA and found out that we didn't. I don't think my situation is particularly unusual or embarrassing or anything like that. All she has to do is shrug it off and say "turns out our family story wasn't true."

This. I don't see why it's necessary for her to keep saying that she's Native American.

Or she can just be honest and say that no one knows if it's true, but some stupid people would call that a cop-out.

Except she used this claim to reap the benefits of Affirmative Action for herself.  That's kind of a big deal; taking something not meant for you.

Except she put herself in a position to be pwn3d by DONALD TRUMP!!!

Except that she's now "America's Poser".

Except that ordinary folks have a revulsion for phonies.

Except that the way she explained herself came off as royally unconvincing.

Except that she doesn't get it that her issue is with ordinary white voters moreso than with Native American Tribes on this matter.

Warren appears to be getting horrible advice in this issue.
