Hmmm... so far it appears that people think this will be a 47-52 affair. These maps come to mind.

Lake McCain while there is a drought.

more or less the dems could take everything from California and New England to the entire Northeastern and Western Quarter of the country.

Hillary would not carry Colorado against McCain.  She may come close in NC and VA, but would not win them.

We'll know before the polls close, and someone will have conceded by 11 or so.

Odds are on the Democrats winning a healthy total, probably enough to know a winner by midnight or so.

If the current racial fratricide continues in the Democratic Party, and Obama (or a major African American candidate) is not on the ticket, McCain is the GOP nominee, this is what could happen:

The tossups are states that won't be hugely affected by racial politics.

I bluntly don't think a number of Democratic posters understand how devastating the current Clinton's vs. Obama fight could be in the fall.

What is with Illinois and to a much lesser extent Michigan?

If the Dem wins - it all depends which swing area will give them the EV.

Since I think Clinton will do much better in the border states and Florida, I think you'll have a pretty clear idea by midnight. Whereas I think Obama will do better out west than Clinton you'll be waiting into the early hours.

Michigan was close last time.  Illinois is Obama's home state.
