I love when a thread blows up in the haters' faces.

Debate, varying viewpoints, and disagreeing with Santorum do not haters make.

Debate and varying viewpoints are called democracy.

...

The earliest posts in this thread didn't resemble "debate" at all.

Actually yes. Freshman year of high school in my English class the only way to get an A on an assignment concerning how to "solve racism" was state the answer was some form of socialism.
Really?  That's a bizarre experience.  Did you report it to the administration?

High school teachers generally try to be as neutral as possible; they don't have nearly as much a free hand as the professors Santorum refers to.

No, I just got my group to make a presentation on the exact opposite stating merit-based systems would solve the racism in the market problem Tongue I still got an A in the class in the end. I'm not sure where you live but your teachers are not neutral and make it loud and clear. My AP World History teacher who's kinda dumb is a libertarian and makes sure we know it and intergets his personal bias in history. Which is fine for me because I can separate known fact and his theories which sometimes do have strong support, but a lot of the class thinks they're the same. Or my English teacher in 8th grade who had us listen to Obama's inauguration than was applauding at the end and voted for him because he was black...

Education makes one a Commie if --

1. One lives in a Commie system and sells out after finding that going along with the Party is good for one's career, or

2. If one lives under a terribly-inequitable social order that allows intellectual freedom but no reasonable means of challenging the severe inequity.

But the educated elite don't matter that much in deciding whether a country goes Communist. Alienated educated intellectuals have no power unless they can stimulate the masses to believe that the ruling elite is their shared enemy. Nobody can ever convince illiterate people that Communism is good by reading from Das Kapital, a tome too abstruse for peasants and sweat-shop workers to consume. No, Commie rhetoric has to be reduced to simple and memorable slogans relevant to the hardships that the common people know all too well.

Rick Santorum is a fool.
